The bathroom styles that topped the list for our homeowners were Traditional at 43 percent; Contemporary at 32 percent; and Transitional (a blend of Contemporary and Traditional) at 12 percent.
Top Forgotten Features
The top regret for those surveyed was not putting in a heated floor, with 22 percent.
Next was unique storage solutions like armoires at 13 percent. Followed by jetted baths at 12 percent and towel warmers at 9.5 percent.
The moral of the story - Plan well; regret not.
Top Distinctive Features
Showers ranked number one in the distinctive features category. Homeowners that are remodeling their bathrooms are looking for a separate shower area with glass doors and multiple shower heads. It is all about creating a spa environment at home.
Respondents also favored luxury countertops and vanities in their newly remodeled bathrooms as a distinctive feature.
Most Specified Features
For consumers remodeling their bathroom the most specified bathroom feature was the vanity.
The demand for his and her sinks is high as people want to enjoy their grooming time without being rushed.
Lighting and showers followed closely behind.
Top Shower Features
While many consumers will be going with a shower and tub combo and a standard shower head because of limited space and budget, others are tending toward a separate shower with glass doors.
Rainfall showerheads are very popular among those surveyed as many try to add luxury to their bathroom.
Top Bathroom Faucet Finishes
The strong leader as the top bathroom faucet finish is chrome. This popular finish is comes in a wide variety of styles.
Nickel brushed and polished was also a solid choice, followed by stainless steel.
Brass, while not as popular, is still available from a number of manufacturers.
Top Bathroom Countertop Materials
Of the homeowners surveyed 25 percent chose solid surfacing for their bathroom countertops. Over 20 percent indicated they used marble, and another 19 percent favored granite. Engineered stone also ranked highly with 13 percent of those responding.
Reasons for Choosing a Bathroom Remodeling Contractor
When our homeowners were polled on how they selected a bathroom remodeling contractor or designer, the top reply was “referral/word of mouth” with 28 percent, “price” was next with 23 percent, followed by “ability to coordinate entire job” at 13 percent and “willingness to work within our budget” at 9 percent.
Top Bathroom Project Problems
The things that homeowners did not enjoy about their renovation was first of all "unexpected delays". This problem ranked the highest at close to 40 percent. Over 20 percent were concerned with “Conflicts with the designer/remodeler” and “Additional costs”.
