Thank you for your email and follow-up. I am in the process of selecting one of the several contractors I have spoken with. Without a doubt, the service you provide in his area is second to none. Again, I thank you and will let you know the final outcome once the project is completed.

   Before Hiring a Contractor

Renovation Experts takes hiring a contractor seriously. We help thousands of homeowners each month through this process. We strongly recommend that homeowners follow at a minimum some basic steps to protect themselves even when hiring a contractor recommended by Renovation Experts.

The Federal Trade Commission recommends in part the following:

  • Check out the contractor with your local or state consumer protection officials.
  • Ask the contractor for customer references who have projects similar to yours.
  • Ask for a copy of the contractor's current insurance certificates and licenses, if required.
  • Get written estimates from several firms. Make sure bids are based on identical project specifications.
  • Get all guarantees, warranties and promises in writing.
  • Agree on start and completion dates, and have them written into the contract.
  •
Renovation Experts further recommends that you do the following:

  • Home Improvement projects vary in type and scale and may have differing requirements for completion. It is always best if you have a signed contract in place between yourself and the contractor detailing out the specifics of the job before any financial transactions are completed.
  • Report suspicious contractor behavior to the Better Business Bureau and to Renovation Experts.
  • Never pay for work that is not completed to your satisfaction.
  •
Homeowners should always remember that they have control over their project by controlling the release of funds to the contractor. Most problems can be corrected and resolved by maintaining this financial control.
