| If you are a homeowner planning any home renovation, remodeling or new construction projects in the city of Cambridge, then you will need to obtain a building permit. It is possible to pull the permit yourself. However, it is usually a beter idea to have your licensed contractor pull the permit for the work that they will be doing. Before applying for a building permit, you must contact the Community Development Department so that they can ensure that your project is in compliance with any Zoning Ordinances. Also, if you live in a historic district or neighbourhood, then you will be required to obtain a Certificate of Appropriateness.
