| One question that homeowners commonly ask when deciding if a new paint job is needed for their home or not is: What type of signs should I look for? There are a variety of symptoms that your paint or wood will have when it needs new paint. The following are problems that you should look for: Check all paint for cracking or chipping. Corners, window sills, door sills, edges and roof lines are the best places to look for cracking or chipping. These indicate that the paint has been penetrated and can no longer protect your wood from being damaged by water. Look for fading paint. All paint fades over time. However, there are areas that have constant sun. These areas will begin to change the paints chemical composition, which will lead to cracking and warping wood. Mildew is almost self-explanatory. Found in damp, shaded areas, your paint will begin to turn a green or black color which is almost impossible to scrub off by hand. |
