At times homeowners are looking for a project they can undertake to spruce up their property.  If you are looking for a change more meaningful than a few extra flowers, perhaps a pond is your answer. Depending on the space available and the size of the pond you desire, the initial excavating can be quite an undertaking.

Most of the questions you need answered can't be found in an article somewhere, they can only be answered in your yard.  The size of your property and an available water source will be the major determining factors in the size of your pond.  A small backyard pond can usually be dug by hand.  A liner can be purchased and used to mark out the area to be dug. These types of ponds can usually be outfitted with plumbing and an electrical pump.  A larger water feature on a more spacious property will require the services of an excavating contractor.  They can let you know the best location to make use of available water for your pond.  Make sure you hire a contractor with experience in pond excavation. Their knowledge of appropriate soil and water conditions will ensure your pond holds water. Many don't!
