| Hendersonville is one of the fastest growing communities in the state of Tennessee. Its significant growth is due to the towns geographic location and scenic beauty. As many are currently aware, a retaining wall is a structure that holds back rock or soil from a building, a structure, or a particular area. They are used in landscapes to provide support for any kind of vertical changes, as well as to prevent down-slope movement or erosion. While a retaining wall may be essential to a property, and homeowners are able to reap benefits from having them as a part of their landscape, many are not fond of them. Several Tennessee residents expressed that, for the most part, retaining walls are not attractive. However, we have found that this has caused many residents to take the initiative to soften their retaining wall with the addition of herbs, vines and other plants. Some suggestions included using cascading hardy rosemary, trailing or flopping herbs, and vegetable vines. The idea is to drape the plants over the retaining wall for a beautiful garden like effect. Other gardeners and landscapers have used creeping phlox to soften the top edge of the retaining wall. Lemon thyme and Candytuft were also suggested and described as gorgeous blooms all over the wall. In conclusion, keep in mind that if you are building a retaining wall, you should be planning its design to compliment and fit well with the rest of your landscape. |
