Thank you for your email and follow-up. I am in the process of selecting one of the several contractors I have spoken with. Without a doubt, the service you provide in his area is second to none. Again, I thank you and will let you know the final outcome once the project is completed.

One of the quickest ways to find out what the price of a job will be is to calculate the amount of work that needs to be done yourself before contacting a contractor. In this way all your quotes will be based on the same set of information and the bids will come in accordingly.
However, not all calculations are same. Some required extra consideration. A flooring calculator will allow you to put in the square footage but also the type of flooring you want and the quality requirements. For example, if you want to put flooring in a rumpus room you don't necessarily want oak hardwood.
A roofing cost calculator will include the square footage, the type of shingles and also another variable called the pitch. The pitch or slope of a roof is the amount of height that a roof rises over 12 inches of horizontal distance. So if a roof rises 4 inches vertically for every 12 inches on the horizontal this is called 4/12 pitch. The reason that the pitch is put into the calculation is that a steep pitch like an 8/12 requires more labor due to the difficulty factor. As a 4/12 is fairly shallow the roofers can walk around freely without supports and so it takes less time. An online roofing calculator will give you a rough idea on what your roof will cost before you contact the contractor.
When ventilation contractors figure out the proper air system for a home they go by square footage but also by the length and width of the home. With a ventilation calculator this will be factored in.
For an estimate on painting a calculator would include square footage, interior or exterior application, the type of paint and also the texture. Many painters will also factor in height when coming to a price for the exterior which is not covered when using an online painting calculator.
